With the Lithuanian spirit of freedom, Lazdijai commemorates the Day of Restoration of the State of Lithuania - February 16th. On this occasion sacrifices were made to St. Mass at Lazdijai St. At the church of Anna, after which the lazy people and the guests of the land joined together for a solemn procession. At the memorial and commemorative plaques of General Adolfas Ramanauskas-Vanags commemorating the flowers of the Lazdijai district volunteers of the 1919-1920 Lithuanian independence struggle and the Vytis Cross cavalry, memorial swabs were placed in the town's Independence Square.
Later, the festive commemoration of February 16 moved to the Lazdijai Cultural Center, where Arūnas Maciulevičius, Aida Bubelienė, Valdas Krukonis, chamber choir "Gaustas" donated the musical works during the program "Lithuanian Spirit of Freedom", folk dance group "Lazdija". The Lithuanian national anthem was followed by a welcome speech by Ausra Miskiniene, mayor of Lazdijai district municipality, and a ceremony to present the Angel of Liberty.
The Angel of Liberty statuettes, which were made at Rudamina Craft Center, were awarded with Ona Urbonavičienė, Vytautas Valukonis and Juozas Megelinskas for significant merits to the Lazdijai Region and the State of Lithuania.
During the event, a special initiative - the Unity Campaign to commemorate the 30th anniversary of March 11 - was also announced. During this campaign, a homemade bread loaf - a symbol of co-operation and ergot and a roll of canvas - will travel from the ward to the ward, where all residents of the ward will be able to stamp the tricolor stamps on their palms.
Following the presentation of the Unity Campaign, a documentary "Partisan" was shown at the Lazdijai Cultural Center, telling the unique story of the Resurrection District Commander Juozas Paliūnas-Morning.
